Fountains & Architecture Are The Theme For Casey & Mauricio’s Engagement Sessions And Look What They Had to Say About Us

Casey really loved the idea of going to downtown Los Angeles to capture her engagement portraits with honey Mauricio-we explained that some buildings could be strict about permits-she was determined and did all the leg work and got permissions from the spots she wanted to go to – last on her list was the light installation outside LACMA on Wilshire Blvd. in the Miracle Mile District.  Casey’s day started with expert hair and makeup by Samantha Singer- and wow!  what a knockout she was!

Here’s a peek at the fun we had, however, we didn’t know that we would have the most fun reading this email from Casey AFTER she saw the portraits last night:

Jody, I know you guys get this all the time, but we are sooo in love with the engagement pictures. David heard me repeat myself at least a half dozen times about how I had no idea we could have pictures that look so amazing. The combination of the photos and the editing are just unbelieveable. Never could I imagine they would come out so amazing.
the yelp review is being created… “if they can’t make you look good, you ugly”   =)
He heard it, but we didn’t get to see you, I wanted to thank you for the editing.  it is amazing, soo love it!!!
I have it narrowed to 39, I’ll get it squeezed down again by the end of the weekend for the engagement photo book.”

I still giggle every time I read it…we just can’t wait until their wedding day!

Shooting Through The Tears At Carolyn & Andrews Dream Wedding at the Sheraton Delfina Hotel in Santa Monica

Our first wedding of 2014 provided lots of first for us:  it was our first time at the hotel- Le Meridien Delfina Santa Monica, it was the first time we had ever photographed both the bride’s Bat Mitzvah and the groom’s Bar Mitzvah, it was the first time time I (Jody) found out how well I could shoot through my own tears.  I’m not trying to convince anyone that from time to time, I do not push back a tear of two at a wedding, but this day was filled with moments when I was pushing back a flood.  Muscle memory took over and I kept on shooting.  I guess the point I am trying to make was just how special a day this was- Carolyn & Andrew share such a sweet, wonderful, supportive relationship with one another, and both families are so close, and supportive of their kids, it was really a pleasure to be there to share this important event with them.  And then there were the grandmas, oh, the bubbes!  Both Irene & Louise share such a special relationship with their grandkids, and just think another wedding in 9 months for Emma & Josh…we can hardly wait!!!

Enough said, here are some of my favorites moments of the day-still to come-lots more to come- reception part 2 later this week.  In the meantime…enjoy these…we certainly are!

Jennifer & Al’s Story: Romance at Spanish Hills Country Club Wedding

When Al and his fiancé, Jennifer, came in to meet with us, we knew we would have fun with this couple.  We have known Al since he was in elementary school with our son.  Al and Jennifer too, go far back… They started as neighbors, then friends, and eventually that turned into a romance.  Their love story started right here, in Newhall. Nine and a half years of dating, and Al finally popped the question in Big Bear while snowboarding.

When it came time to do their engagement photos, they had tons of ideas.  The first part of their session was at their condo with their cute little Yorkie, Ace. Jen is quite the baker so they wanted to incorporate her love for baking and Al’s enthusiasm for her sweets into their pictures. I don’t think Al minded eating the cupcakes for multiple shots! The next stop was at TPC to take some photos near the lake and catch their love for country by rocking some cowboy boots and hats. We then moved onto their old stomping grounds: Hart High School. Here we caught them kissing in the bleachers, tossing a softball on the field, and throwing around a football. We were able to get to know them even better and capture a lot of their personalities in these photos!  We couldn’t wait to hang out with them again at their wedding.

When their wedding day arrived, we knew exactly how to get these two smiling for the camera.  The bride and groom got ready at Hyatt Westlake where we captured some great getting ready shots and special moments, especially the first look with Jen and her dad. It was a priceless moment. Thanks to the Friday night traffic on the 101, we risked losing precious shooting time, so I took the bride, her matron of honor and maid of honor in my car so we can get all the pictures we would need, and not have to wait for the limo to make the round trip back after dropping off the guys.  Luckily my cooler was loaded with cold water and snacks for everyone.  Once we arrived at Spanish Hills Country Club, we went right into their moment to remember. It was such a touching exchange for these two. These intimate moments for a couple are a memory to be cherished forever, and we take that very seriously. As we shot the ceremony and moved into the reception, there wasn’t a detail left undone. There were personal touches everywhere. With the intimate group they had, you could see all the love for one another throughout the room. Everyone knew each other and had a great time. This was one group that sure knew how to party! We were so happy to be a part of this beautiful day and go home with a yummy cookie for the drive home.

Thank you so much Jen & Al for sharing your day with us, and for all the nice posts on Facebook.  We love your album too…that’s why it became a sample book at the studio.

Missy & Greg’s Wedding at Valencia Country Club: Vintage Shabby Chic Lights up the Night

You would think that if you went to kiss a girl at the end of a first date, and completely missed her mouth and had your tongue land on her nose, you might give up and never see her again. Luckily, Greg was not ever giving up on Missy. Persistence and love paid off—the relationship blossomed, and their June wedding was the culmination of many years of perfect kisses, planning, and romance.

Hours and hours of meticulous care were taken to transform Valencia Country Club into a pink & white, vintage, shabby chic wonderland. Charmaine filled Missy’s vision with fabulous flowers, Rusty and A V Party Rentals provided all the rental items, Sharon Stanman of Painted Joy contributed hand-lettered signs, Missy’s own father actually created and manufactured the doors they entered through, and J & M Entertainment‘s Jorge Lopez was the MC to the partying and fun, which was nonstop and even included one of the Backstreet Boys (!) dancing with his new wife out on the dance floor. We felt fortunate to be there to capture it all—check out our smiling faces at the end!

Romantic Backyard Wedding in Santa Clarita of Maria & Lalo

We have known Maria & Lalo for quite a while.  They  first met us at their cousin’s wedding we photographed several years ago.  Their wedding was originally scheduled for last June, but Maria’s deployment to Iraq forced them to push the wedding ahead for a year.  Lalo is a Marina recruiter and Maria is in the U.S. Army.  Their adorable daughter Isabella is a student.  Maria’s cousins graciously offered their beautiful Santa Clarita hilltop home for the intimate ceremony and fun filled reception.  Isabella was a very important participant in the planning and execution of this perfect day.  And yes, Lalo’s tears were real when he saw his beautiful bride.  We were proud to share this amazing day with this special couple and their family.
